Ali Bardakoğlu graduated from the Istanbul Higher Institute of Islam in 1974 and the Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 1975.
In 1982, he earned his doctorate in the Department of Islamic Law and was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Islamic Law at the Erciyes University Faculty of Theology. He became an associate professor in 1986 and a professor in 1994.
He was appointed as the President of Religious Affairs on May 28, 2003, and held this position until 2010.
Currently, he serves as the Director of KURAMER (Kur’an-ı Kerim Araştırmaları Uygulama Ve Araştırma Merkezi - Qur'an Research and Application Center), which operates under the Istanbul 29 Mayıs University.
