Assoc. Prof. Erkan Sarıtaş graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law with high honors in 2007. In the same year, he enrolled in the Master's Program at the Istanbul University Institute of Social Sciences Public Law Department. He completed this program in 2009, earning his M.A. degree with his master’s thesis titled “Türk Ceza Hukukunda Mala Zarar Verme Suçu ve Kriminolojik Açıdan Vandalizm” (The Crime of Damaging Property in Turkish Criminal Law and Vandalism from a Criminological Perspective), which he prepared and defended.
Assoc. Prof. Sarıtaş began his doctoral studies at the Istanbul University Institute of Social Sciences Public Law Department in 2010 and completed his doctorate in 2017 by defending his thesis titled “Suç İşlemek Amacıyla Örgütlenme Suçları (TCK m.220-221)” (Crimes of Establishing an Organization for the Purpose of Committing a Crime [Turkish Penal Code, Articles 220-221]). In 2024, his presentation thesis titled “Suçun Yapısında Hareketin Konusu” (The Object of the Action in the Structure of the Crime) and his other publications were unanimously deemed successful by the jury, resulting in him acquiring the title of Associate Professor in the field of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law.
Assoc. Prof Sarıtaş concentrates his research particularly on suç genel teorisi (general theory of crime), örgütlü suçlar (organized crimes), ekonomik çıkar amacıyla işlenen suçlar (crimes committed for economic gain), ceza kovuşturması (criminal prosecution), ceza ve güvenlik tedbirlerinin infazı (execution of punishments and security measures), and kabahatler hukuku (law of minor offenses/misdemeanors). He has numerous scientific works, including several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters published in various journals, and three books.
