Asst. Prof. Hümeyra Zeynep Erden graduated from İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi (İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University Faculty of Law) in 2006, where she studied with a full scholarship, achieving second place in her class. Between 2007 and 2008, she completed the Private Law Master’s Program at Emory University School of Law in the United States, also with a full scholarship, and received her LL.M. degree with her research on “Amerika’da Alternatif Uyuşmazlık Çözüm Yolları” (Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods in America).
In 2015, she earned the title of Doctor of Laws after defending her thesis titled “Milletlerarası Yatırım Hukukunda Dolaylı Kamulaştırma” (Indirect Expropriation in International Investment Law), which she prepared under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Cemal Şanlı at the İstanbul Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Özel Hukuk Anabilim Dalı (Istanbul University Institute of Social Sciences Private Law Department). As part of her doctoral studies, she conducted academic research at the Max-Planck Karşılaştırmalı ve Milletlerarası Özel Hukuk Enstitüsü (Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law) in Hamburg, Germany, and later at Brooklyn Law School in the USA for subsequent research.
She began her academic career in 2009 as a research assistant in the İstanbul Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi Milletlerarası Özel Hukuk Anabilim Dalı (Istanbul University Faculty of Law Private International Law Department). She served as an assistant in the same department with the title of doctoral student and worked Dr. Research Assistant between 2015 and 2017.
After starting her work as an assistant professor at this faculty, she continued her academic activities at the Private International Law Department of the İstanbul Şehir Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi (Istanbul Şehir University Faculty of Law) between March 2018 and April 2020. Since April 2020, she has been continuing her duty at the Private International Law Department of the Istanbul 29 Mayıs University Faculty of Law.
She predominantly focuses her academic work on the fields of milletlerarası özel hukuk (private international law), milletlerarası tahkim (international arbitration), vatandaşlık ve yabancılar hukuku (citizenship and aliens law), uluslararası yatırım hukuku (international investment law), and alternatif uyuşmazlık çözümü (alternative dispute resolution). She has one published monograph, numerous peer-reviewed articles, and papers presented at national and international scientific conferences in these areas.
