Prof. Dr. Yıldıray Sak graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Law in 1997. In the same year, he enrolled in the Marmara University Institute of European Union Master’s Program, which he completed in 2001 with the thesis titled ‘Avrupa Birliği Hukuku ve İnsan Hakları (European Integration and Human Rights)’. He subsequently completed his Doctoral Program in 2006, earning the title of Doctor with the thesis titled ‘Avrupa Birliği ile Üye Devletler Arasındaki Yetki Paylaşımı Sorunu–Hukuk Kuramı Yaklaşımı (The Competence Issue Between EU and Member States–Legal Theory Approach)’.
Following the evaluation of his presentation thesis, titled ‘Devletin Yargı Bağışıklığı ve Temel Hakların Korunması’ (State Immunity from Jurisdiction and the Protection of Fundamental Rights), and his other academic works, he was unanimously awarded the title of Associate Professor of Public International Law by the jury.
Prof. Dr. Sak's research focuses on issues within international law, particularly concerning jurisdiction and immunity from jurisdiction, international human rights law, use of force and armed conflicts, law of international organizations, and law of the sea, among others. In 2024, he became a Professor with his work titled ‘Uluslararası Hukukta Mutabakat Zabıtları’ Memoranda of Understanding in International Law.
Prof. Dr Sak has conducted pre- and post-doctoral academic studies at prestigious institutions such as Pace University, State University of New York, and the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law. His academic output includes published national and international books, articles, and papers.
Prof. Dr. Yıldıray Sak currently serves as the Head of the Public International Law Department and a faculty member.
